Dry Fruits For Growing Children

Do you remember your mother nagging at you to eat the almonds she soaked overnight for you? Well it’s your turn to do the same for your kids now! Dry fruits are a great source of vitamins and minerals, and adding them to your child’s diet can do wonders for them.
Here’s a few reasons why:
1. Prevents Constipation

Children tend to suffer from constipation regularly. Dry fruits, especially prunes are rich in fiber, and this can help regularise their bowel movement. A healthy gut leads to a healthy body, allowing your child to go about everyday activities with energy and ease.
2. Enhances eye and bone capacity
Dry fruits are a source of rich calcium and vitamin A. While calcium helps in strengthening your child’s bones, vitamin A enhances your child’s eyesight capacity. So if your child refuses to eat more than a few pieces of carrot, or doesn’t drink much milk, include these sources to avoid calcium or vitamin A deficiencies.

3. Contains Omega 3 fatty acid

Walnuts contain omega 3 fatty acids, that are known to aid in the development of your child’s brain and also to fight off obesity, diabetes and heart diseases when eaten in moderation. Omega 3 fatty acids cannot be synthesized by out body, and are hence called ‘essential’ fats that should be included in our foods to obtain them.
4. Gives energy

Your child is growing, and this means the amount of energy they burn in a day is much more than an adult. In order to maintain their energy levels, add dry fruits into their diet. This will help give your child a boost of energy through healthy sources. Your child needs a lot of energy, but giving them from sugary, high-calorie foods is bad, so healthy sources like dry fruits and nuts gives your kids the right kind of nutrition.

As a parent it is okay for you to be skeptical about adding new items into your child’s diet. With dry fruits and nuts, you can not go wrong, they have innumerable benefits for your child’s overall development. The only thing you may worry about is choking risks if your child is too young. Wait until your child is old enough to chew food well, and introduce them first as soaked almonds or walnuts. You could add it into their cereal, or make it a part of their snacking routine. As long as your child is not allergic to any of these foods, you can make them part of your child’s daily routine.
