How To Make Dry Mint Powder (Pudina Powder) – Using Microwave & Convection

Making mint powder is a simple and easy way to preserve mint leaves. An obvious way to do this is to spread the leaves on a newspaper or kitchen towel for 2-3 days and dry them in shade. But what if you don’t have time and want this instantly. In such a case, you can do this in MICROWAVE & CONVECTION. We are showing both the methods in this post. We have also included a video describing both the processes.

Mint or pudina is an herb that we should consume on a daily basis by including it in our daily meals because of its various healthy benefits.

How can you use mint powder in your cooking ?

  • While making lachcha parathas or pudina puris, you can sprinkle this powder.
  • For making Farsi Puri/Nashte ki puri, you can give a minty flavour to it by adding  this powder.
  • This mint powder will come to your rescue, when you are out of mint leaves at home or want to make something instantly and don’t have time to pluck and clean mint leaves – like to add in your nimbu paani or masala chaas.

Process to be done before we begin making dry mint powder 

  • Pluck mint leaves and soak them in a bowl of salt water for 5-10 minutes.
  • Remove in a strainer and wash them thoroughly in running water.
  • Remove excess water and spread on a kitchen towel or any absorbent cloth to absorb its moisture.

How to prepare Dry Mint Powder (Pudina Powder)

Method – 1 : Microwave Method

  • Spread leaves on a microwave safe plate and microwave on high power for 2 minutes.
  • Remove and turn the leaves. Again microwave for 2 more minutes.
  • Check whether they have become crisp. If not, again microwave for about a minute.
  • Do not straight away put the leaves for continuous 4 minutes or so. By doing so, you will end up burning the leaves.
  • Crush the leaves with your fingertips.
  • Pass them through a strainer to get rid of its stalks.
  • Store the powder in an air-tight container.

Method – 2 : Convection/Oven Method

  • Spread leaves on a baking tray and bake at 180 degrees Celsius for 10-12 minutes.
  • Check after 8-9 minutes and keep an eye after that.
  • Check whether they have become crisp. If not, again bake for a few more minutes.
  • Crush the leaves with your fingertips.
  • Pass them through a strainer to get rid of its stalks.
  • Store the powder in an air-tight container.
